Symfony developer in Leipzig for platforms that have to keep running

Your Symfony application carries your business: bookings, billing, customer communication. It grows every year, dependencies age, new integrations are added. I keep it stable, update it safely and make sure new requirements fit in cleanly. I am a freelance Symfony developer with more than 15 years of PHP experience, and I work remotely or on-site in Leipzig and the surrounding area.

How I can help

  • Evolving existing platforms

Building new features into grown codebases without breaking what works, with tests and traceable changes.

  • APIs and integrations

Connecting billing, payment and partner APIs, including error handling, retry logic and logging.

  • Updates and maintenance

Keeping Symfony and its components up to date on a plan, so security updates never become a major project.

  • Monitoring and operations

Logging, alerting and metrics that show errors before your customers report them.

  • Email delivery and background jobs

Reliable queues and mailings, even when traffic is high.

  • New projects

If you are starting fresh, I build it efficiently with the right tools, from architecture to deployment.

In practice: travel booking platform

For several years I co-maintained the Symfony backend of a travel booking platform. My responsibilities included system monitoring, email delivery, keeping components up to date and integrating new billing APIs. On a booking platform every minute of uptime counts, so we rolled out changes in small steps during live operation. Each one was tested and could be rolled back at any time.

In practice: migrating a long-grown shop

A PHP shop that has grown over more than 15 years is to move to a modern Symfony structure. A risky full rewrite is off the table. Together with the team, we are preparing the migration step by step: untangling responsibilities in the code, adding tests where there were none, and moving areas over one at a time while the shop keeps running.

I look at the code and infrastructure and give you an honest assessment, even if the answer is "don't rebuild".

  3. Proposal

Hourly, daily or as a project, whatever fits.

  4. Implementation

In short, traceable steps, closely aligned with your team.

  5. Handover

Frequently asked questions

Do you take over projects that someone else built?
Yes, that is a large part of my work. I get to know the codebase systematically and document what I find along the way. That helps your team, too.
Do you work with our in-house team?
Yes. Either as reinforcement within your existing team or with ownership of a clearly defined area.
How much effort is a Symfony upgrade?
It mainly depends on how many versions are skipped and how well the code is tested. After a look at the codebase I can give a realistic estimate and suggest a step-by-step path.
Do you work on-site?
Happily in Leipzig and the surrounding area; otherwise I work remotely.
How is the work billed?
Hourly, daily or as a fixed-price project. It depends on the scope and how well the task can be defined up front.
